I’ve been told the cost of the track was 1 million dollars. I could see that a as a price for the track even way back in the 70ties.
Rumors persisted that the track is stored in the lot at Pinewood in England. There was talk about demonstration games to promote the move (almost logistically impossible) so I can see that the track wasn’t destroyed when the filming was done and was stored somewhere. However according to this email reply from Roxy Stapleton that they don’t store movie props at the end of production. (See below)
So the question is where is the track and all of the assorted material involved in the filming of the game sequences? What happened to the motorbikes, helmets, gloves, flags, etc. The search continues.
Hi Joe,
Thank you for your email. I'm afraid we don't store anything from past productions at any of our Pinewood sites. When productions are finished with scenery or props they usually take it with them or dispose of them themselves. Sorry I can't be more help.
Kindest regards, Roxy Stapleton Sales Assistant
